Both the federal New Democrats and the Greens are calling on the federal government to immediately scrap the now-expanded 2004 Safe Third Country Agreement (STCA) with the United States following the tragic deaths earlier this month of two families who drowned in the St. Lawrence River attempting to cross from Canada into the United States on the Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) territory of Akwesasne, which straddles the Ontario, Quebec, and New York borders.
