A ray of sunshine amidst the back-to-Parliament gloom: a Hill tea party

Last week Parliament was finally back after the two-month prorogation period, which was starting to become in the minds of the Liberals what the sponsorship scandal is for the Conservatives: the ultimate act of evil from which there can be no redemption. But unlike with the sponsorship scandal, the Liberals aren't poised to win any elections over the temporary shuttering of Parliament that ended on March 3.

Grit MP Pearson calls outgoing Tory MP Abbott 'straight-up, fully honest'

Liberal MP Glen Pearson calls Conservative MP Jim Abbott, who's six feet and five inches tall, 'The Quiet Giant.' In a blog posting last week, Mr. Pearson said he never spoke to Mr. Abbott for the first two years he was in Parliament until he was appointed the critic for international cooperation and Mr. Abbott was the Parliamentary secretary to the international cooperation minister.

Liberal MP Dosanjh holds his own on Colbert Report, nation

Liberal MP Ujjal Dosanjh says he held his own going against American political satirist Stephen Colbert, who had been constantly mocking Canadians as "iceholes" and "syrup suckers" until he arrived last Wednesday at Creekside Park in Vancouver to cover the Olympics and to do a live taping of his massively popular comedy show, The Colbert Report.

Environment Minister Prentice now on Twitter and Nicholls working for U.S. Republican Senatorial campaign in New Hampshire

There are loads of federal politicians on Twitter, twittering and tweeting away and federal Environment Minister Jim Prentice recently announced he's on it too. His office said last Monday, Feb. 8, that he's at http://twitter.com/JimPrentice and said it's the place to go to stay up date with Mr. Prentice's "latest initiatives and announcements." It looks like Mr. Prentice has been on Twitter since Jan. 16. Mostly he talks about speeches he delivered and government announcements he made. His latest entry?

Politics and the Pen, one of the hottest tickets of the winter season to be held on March 10 in Ottawa at the Chateau Laurier, will also be the night to announce the $25,000 winner of the Shaughnessy Cohen Prize for Political Writing.
